Intern with Ross White, Arkansas Director of Career and Technical Education. January 31, 2023.
Teaching internships create an opportunity for student teachers to learn from their mentors and learn from others through collaboration outside of the classroom. Samantha Springer recently participated in the Fayetteville Public Schools Career and Technical Education Taskforce where she met with leaders across the district and the state including Ross White, Arkansas Director of Career and Technical Education. We are thankful for our amazing partner schools and the collaboration we have with stakeholders!

2018 Undergraduate Career and Technical Education Nominee
Russell Johnson is a senior Technology Education major at the University of Arkansas. As a professional goal, Russell wants to set a stellar example for my students of how an adult should act. “This, to me, means that I will show respect to my students and fellow teachers and act with integrity in everything that I do.”
While completing his internship at Southwest Junior High School, Russell commented on how this internship has changed his life. “I feel comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, and have built professional relationships with my students. I am very proud of all of my students and the hard work they put into my class.”
Upon earning his undergraduate degree in May, Russell would like to teach somewhere in Northwest Arkansas. “I would like to continue my education in the future and receive a Master’s degree, but I want a few years of experience under my belt before starting on that,” he added.

Jennifer O’Neal is currently pursuing her M.E.d. in Career and Technical Education. After spending almost 20 years working in the corporate retail field, she decided to combine her wealth of knowledge and experience with a passion for helping others learn and grow toward their goals.
While completing her internship at Woodland Junior high, Jennifer brings her real world experiences to the classroom as she shares with her students about the variety of people, cultures, and places she has explored while working in corporate America. “This internship has solidified by belief that education is my calling. My hope is to complete my licensure this summer and secure a teaching position for the fall. While I am enjoying Junior High very much and believe that it is my preference, I am open to other ages as well. I also plan to achieve certification in Career Development and potentially one other subject. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in the MBA program at ASU in the event that I might want to teach collegiate level business classes at some point also.”
